I have some more random thoughts.
- I like coming to NYC, to our global headquarters. I like that people stop by and say hi--staff, managers, senior managers, partners, it doesn't matter. Coming here is like a family reunion, and you get to see all the people you've swapped emails with, had phone calls with, saddled with vulgar nicknames in moments of frustration and owed your career to in other moments. I think of the people in my practice, especially the partners and the other people I've known for almost 12 years now, as my little dysfunctional family, and I love them all, even if some of them are real bastards sometimes.
- I love the email chains my Camp Punishment family includes me on. I love that Lulu has exclusive rights to the term "ass clown." I love checking my email after being offline for an afternoon and having, like, 40 emails that are clever, obscene, hilarious and stupid all at once.
- I love that my favorite people in all the world are human. They're supportive, psychotic, irrational, selfless, selfish, loving, angry, stupid, brilliant, silly, sincere, insecure, damaged, tender, and loveable, all at the same time. What better gift than to have people in your life who are all of those things (and then some) and who let you be all those things, too?
- I love beer. I do. It sounds so redneck and white trash, but before you judge, consider all that beer has to offer: it's fizzy, it's a better drink to rehydrate on than water following a workout (studies prove it), it's fat free and loaded with carbs (yay!), it tastes good, it's relatively low in alcohol content comparatively, some versions of it (like Guinness) are high in protein and other nutrients, it makes you feel full, it's cheap, and it makes you happy (unless you have too many, in which case it makes you sick, but whatever).
- I want to adopt Decker, but I can't. That breaks my heart.
- I love the BCS this year. LSU v. OSU? Who saw that one coming? I mean, maybe in the first week of the season, but then the wheels came off the BCS bus for a while and it was a crap shoot. As far as I'm concerned, this has been the best college football season ever in the history of mankind. Except for 2005, which was the super best ever EVER in the history of mankind. (P.S. - Geaux Tigers!)
- I owe Wiley $80.
- Anderson Cooper is a very attractive man. It's funny, the older I get, the more I appreciate the little signs of wear and tear, like crows feet and laugh lines and salt-and-pepper hair. I think men who age gracefully and confidently are actually more attractive than their younger counterparts.
- When I'm eating something I really, really enjoy, I have a little happy dance I do. It's called the Happy Food Dance.
That's it. I suddenly got tired, so I'm going to bed. I hope everyone is well out there this evening. Good night.
